Technical advice

You can use Microsoft Internet Explorer 8 to 9, Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome for optimal performance and reliability when using the HouseMark website. Internet Explorer 10 needs to be used in Compatibility View​.

What is a cookie?

A cookie is a very small text file that is placed on your computer's hard drive when accessing a website. It is an identification card, which is uniquely yours and can only be read by the server that gave it to you. ​

It cannot be used to deliver computer viruses. 

Why do we use cookies?

The cookie is required to authenticate you as a registered user and so enable you to log in and navigate the site.

Additional advice for organisations using proxy servers or filtering software

If you experience difficulties accessing the subscriber area of the website, we recommend that you contact your IT department for advice. If your organisation has a proxy server or uses filtering software, then your IT department will need to:​

  • choose a suitable rule set in line with its policy requirements 

  • allow the proxy server or any filtering type software to enable access to the following sites/domains: 




- (HouseMark Core benchmarking site)

- (HouseMark PI tracking site)

- (HouseMark online data entry module)

- (HouseMark's business plan enhancement service) ​

- (HouseMark's priority performance benchmarking)

- (HouseMark's data collection service)
  • ​switch off any proxy server caching to the above sites 

  • set Internet Explorer to check for newer versions of stored pages every visit to the page or automatically
